ORGAN CAPTURE DETECTION FOR ELECTRICAL STIMULATORS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A medical stimulator is disclosed in which a number of sensing electrodes are placed along the conductive path of an organ, for example, along the jejunum at a location remote from the natural pacemaker in the proximal duodenum. The pacing electrodes are positioned adjacent the group of sensing electrodes and pacing pulses of d frequency higher than the frequency of a natural pacemaker of the organ are applied to the pacing site(s). In order to be effective, however, the physician using the apparatus must know that capture of the organ has been obtained by the pacing pulses. The present invention achieves this result by evaluating the sensed pulse signals that are received at each of the sensing electrodes in a timed sequence to determine if pacing of the organ is under the control of the applied pacing pulses.
