ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2,5-diacyloxydioxane which comprises reacting 2,5-dichlorodioxane with a salt of formula Me(RCOO)n, in which Me is an alkaline or alkaline-earth metal, R is a lower alkyl radical and n stands for the metal valence. The compounds according to the present invention are useful intermediates for organic syntheses, for instance for the preparation of .alpha.-hydroxy-aldehydes or -ketones, or of .beta.-hydroxy- aminoacids.
