Organic photodetectors with switchable photosensitivity are achieved using organic photoactive layers in electrode/organic/electrode structures. The photosensitivity can be switched on and off by the biasing voltage across the detectors. The photocurrent can be probed with a read-out circuit in the loop. These photodetectors can be arranged in linear arrays or in two-dimensional matrices that function as high performance, linear or two-dimensional image sensors. These image sensors can achieve full color or selected color detection capability.

L'invention concerne des photodétecteurs organiques à photosensibilité commutable que l'on fabrique en utilisant des couches photoactives dans des structures de type électrode/substance organique/électrode. On peut activer et désactiver la photosensibilité en appliquant aux détecteurs une tension de polarisation. On détecte le photocourant au moyen d'un circuit de lecture faisant partie de la boucle. Ces photodétecteurs peuvent être regroupés en des réseaux linéaires ou constituer des matrices bidimensionnelles qui fonctionnent comme des capteurs haute performance d'images linéaires ou bidimensionnelles. Ces capteurs peuvent détecter toutes les couleurs ou uniquement les couleurs choisies.
