The invention relates to organic photochromic materials consisting of a polymer matrix of optical quality and of at least one dye that imparts photochromic properties to the matrix, the dye being selected from spirooxazines, spiropyrans and chromenes. The polymer constituting the matrix is a copolymer of 30-95 wt.% ethoxylated bisphenol A dimethacrylate and 5-70 wt.% of a polyurethane oligomer having terminal di- or triacrylic or di- or trimethacrylic functionality. Such photochromic materials are most suitable for the production of ophthalmic and sun protection lenses.

Cette invention concerne des matériaux organiques photochromiques se composant d'une matrice de polymère de qualité optique et d'au moins un colorant attribuant des qualités photochromiques à la matrice. Ce colorant est choisi parmi les élément suivants: spiro-oxazines, spiro-pyranes et chromènes. Le polymère constituant la matrice est un copolymère comprenant du diméthacrylate A de bisphénol oxyéthylé représentant 30 à 95 % du poids total, ainsi qu'un oligomère de polyuréthanne représentant 5 à 70 % du poids total et dont les fonctions terminales sont di- ou triacryliques, ou encore di- ou triméthacryliques. Ces matériaux photochromiques conviennent parfaitement à la fabrication de lentilles ophtalmiques et de protection contre le soleil.
