Biomass is pretreated us-ing an organic solvent solution under al-kaline conditions in the presence of ele-mental sulfur and optionally one or more alkylamine and/or one or more ad-ditional nucleophile to fragment and ex-tract lignin. Pretreated biomass is fur-ther hydrolyzed with a saccharification enzyme consortium. Fermentable sugars released by saccharification may be uti-lized for the production of target chemi-cals by fermentation.

Selon l'invention, une biomasse est prétraitée à l'aide d'une solution de solvant organique, dans des conditions alcalines, en présence de soufre élémentaire et, facultativement, d'une ou plusieurs alkylamines et/ou d'un ou plusieurs nucléophiles supplémentaires, pour fragmenter et extraire la lignine. La biomasse prétraitée est en outre hydrolysée par un consortium d'enzymes de saccharification. Les sucres fermentescibles libérés par la saccharification peuvent être utilisés pour la production de produits chimiques cibles par fermentation.
