In inorganic oxidizing agent supported on a translucent carrier is incorporated in a respirator cartridge to oxidize organic vapor or gas contacting the agent in passing through the cartridge and to undergo a concomitant color change that can be observed as an indication of cart- ridge end-of-service life.
