An organoclay composition for gelling unsaturated polyester resin/monomer systems comprising a mineral clay mixture which has been treated with an alkyl quaternary ammonium compound. The mineral clay mixture comprises two components: mineral clay (a) comprising greater than 50 wt.%, based on the weight of the mineral clay mixture, of a mineral clay selected from the group consisting of sepiolite, palygorskite and mixtures of sepiolite and palygorskite; and mineral clay (b) comprising less than 50 wt.%, based on the weight of the mineral clay mixture, of a smectite.

L'invention porte sur une composition à base d'argile riche en matières organiques permettant de gélifier des systèmes de résine/monomère polyester non saturé, comportant un mélange d'argile minérale traité avec un composé d'alkyl ammonium quaternaire. Ce mélange d'argile minérale est constitué de deux composants, à savoir, une argile minérale (a) comportant une quantité supérieure à 50 % en poids, en se fondant sur le poids du mélange d'argile minérale, d'une argile minérale choisie dans le groupe constitué de sépiolite, de palygorskite et de mélanges de sépiolite et de palygorskite ainsi qu'une argile minérale (b) comportant moins de 50 % en poids, en se fondant sur le poids du mélange d'argile minérale, d'une smectite.
