ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A water repellent composition is provided comprising an aqueous solution of alkali metal alkyl and/or phenyl siliconates, an organic aqueous soluble complexing or chelating agent and an aqueous miscible monovalent alcohol and/or ketone. This composition may be applied to building materials, such as, for example, masonry surfaces to render them water repellent.
