A device for defining the position of a stem crop has a carrier on which a number of supporting elements for the crop are placed. The supporting elements are equipped for supporting the crop below a thickened part thereof. Parts of the supporting elements face the stem and define an opening whose dimensions correspond to or are greater than those of the cross-section of the stem, and are smaller than the cross-section of the thickened part. The crop supporting elements are directed radially towards the centre of the opening and are at least partially flexible and resilient.
