An improved structure for an implantable medical device, such as an implantable pulse generator, is disclosed. The improved device includes a charging coil for wirelessly receiving energy via induction from an external charger. The charging coil in the device is located substantially equidistantly from the two planar sides of the device case. Because the coil is substantially equidistant within the thickness of the case of the device, the device's orientation within the patient is irrelevant, at least from the standpoint of the efficiency of charging the device using the external charger. Accordingly, charging is not adversely affected if the device is implanted in the patient with the wrong orientation, or if the device flips within the patient after implantation. Moreover, because the central portion of the device naturally corresponds to the largest lateral extent within the case due to the case's curved edges, the charging coil can be made larger in area, which improves its gain vis-a-vis the external charger.

Dispositif médical implantable, tel qu'un générateur d'impulsions implantable, doté d'une structure améliorée. Le dispositif comprend une bobine de charge conçue pour recevoir de l'énergie d'un chargeur externe par induction, sans utiliser de fils. La bobine de charge est placée sensiblement à équidistance de deux côtés plans du boîtier du dispositif. Comme la bobine occupe une position sensiblement équidistante au sein du boîtier du dispositif, l'orientation du dispositif dans le corps du patient n'a pas d'importance, tout au moins sur le plan de l'efficacité de la charge du dispositif par le chargeur externe. La charge ne se trouve donc pas affectée si le dispositif est implanté dans le corps du patient dans une mauvaise orientation, ou s'il se retourne dans le corps du patient après avoir été implanté. De plus, comme la partie centrale du dispositif correspond naturellement à la plus grande dimension latérale à l'intérieur du boîtier en raison des bords incurvés de celui-ci, il est possible d'augmenter la surface de la bobine de charge et donc d'en améliorer le gain vis-à-vis du chargeur externe.
