A compound of the formula (I) is disclosed: R1-(OCH2CH2)n-O-CO-(NH)m-R2 (I) wherein R1 is an alkyl group of 1 to 14 carbon atoms, a phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted by an alkyl group of 1 to 12 carbon atoms or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms substituted by a phenyl group; R2 is an alkyl group of 1 to 14 carbon atoms, a phenyl group, a phenyl group substituted by an alkyl group of 1 to 12 carbon atoms or an alkyl group of 1 to 4 carbon atoms substituted by a phenyl group; n is 6 to 100; and m is 0 or 1. This compound is useful in the manufacture of orthopaedic splinting materials.
