The present invention provides an improved orthopedic system in which the part of the device that attaches to the bone is detachable from the parts of the device which provide the bone stabilization, distraction, etc. In a preferred embodiment, the system includes a proximal bone plate (14) and associated proximal fastener (18), and a distal bone plate (16) and associated distal fastener (20). The bone plates (14; 16) are affixed to the bone on opposing sides of the bone repair site, which may be an osteotomy. The fasteners (18; 20) serve to mechanically couple the orthopedic device, which may be a distractor, through the bone plates (14; 16), to the bone. The fasteners (18; 20) are releasably mechanically coupled to the bone plates (14; 16). This releasability permits the distractor and fasteners (18; 20) to be removed after the orthopedic procedure is complete, leaving only the bone plates (14; 16) in the patient. The bone plates (14; 16) may be made with a low profile, such that they may be left permanently in the patient. In a preferred embodiment, the bone plates (14; 16) are made from a resorbable material, such that they will be absorbed by the patient's body. Methods for using this novel orthopedic system are also disclosed.
L'invention concerne une système orthopédique amélioré dans lequel la partie du dispositif qui se fixe sur l'os peut être séparé des parties permettant une stabilisation, une distraction etc. des os. Dans une forme d'exécution préférée, ce système comprend une plaque (14) vissée proximale associée à un organe (18) de fixation proximal, et une plaque (16) vissée distale associée à un organe (20) de fixation distal. Dans une forme d'exécution préférée, les plaques (14; 16) sont réalisées dans un matériau résorbable de façon à pouvoir être absorbées par l'organisme du patient. L'invention concerne également des procédés d'utilisation de ce nouveau système orthopédique.
