A bone fixation apparatus (10) is disclosed which includes an elongated plate member (12) with at least two pairs of circular openings (24 26) and a series of circular openings (62) positioned along the plate member (12). The circular openings each form a cavity (30) with walls (31) extending between the upper and lower plate member surfaces (16, 18), the cavities having smaller diameter portions (32) at the plate member surfaces (16, 18) and a larger diameter portion (34) therebetween. The cavities are configured in the shape of two inverted cones (31a 31b) with matching base circles (31c) for allowing angulation of an implanted bone screw (14). A plurality of bone screws (14) are provided, each having a threaded first end portion (36) and an ellipsoid- shaped enlarged second end portion (40). A locking member (48) is also provided which connects to the second end portion (40) of each bone screw (14) for expanding the second end portion (40) so as to grip the cavity wall (31) of the plate member (12).
Dispositif de fixation osseuse (10) comprenant une plaque allongée (12) comportant au moins deux paires d'ouvertures circulaires (24)(26) et une série d'ouvertures circulaires (62) placées le long de ladite plaque (12). Les ouvertures circulaires constituent chacune une cavité (30) dont les parois (31) s'étendent entre les surfaces supérieure (16) et inférieure (18) de la plaque, ces cavités possédant des diamètres plus petits (32) au niveau des surfaces de la plaque (16) (18) et un diamètre plus grand (34) entre lesdites surfaces. Ces cavités présentent la forme de deux cônes inversés (31a)(31b) possédant des bases circulaires correspondantes (31c), ce qui permet d'incliner une vis osseuse implantée (14). Une pluralité de vis osseuses (14) possèdent chacune une première partie d'extrémité filetée (36) et une deuxième partie d'extrémité agrandie ellipsoïdale (40). Une élément de verrouillage (48) est relié à la deuxième partie d'extrémité (40) de chaque vis osseuse (14) afin de dilater ladite deuxième partie (40), de manière se fixer à la paroi (31) de la cavité de la plaque (12).
