ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to coaxial connectors, and in particular to apparatus for securing the outer conductor of a coaxial cable to a connector. Prior art coaxial connectors conventionally use a hollow ferrule having a slanted forward face. In use, the cable is passed through the center of the ferrule, and the outer conductor is folded back over the slanted face. The ferrule is then secured in the connector body such that the outer conductor is squeezed between a washer and the slanted face of the ferrule. The conventional apparatus was designed for use with braided conductors and is ill-suited for use with coaxial cables having a spirally wound outer conductor or an essentially tubular outer conductor formed from a solid sheet, since it is impossible to fold such conductors back over the slanted face of the ferrule. The present invention provides an apparatus which is equally wall suited for use with coaxial cables having any of the above- mentioned types of conductors. The apparatus of the present invention comprises a truncated cone shaped member having an annular groove adjacent the larger end thereof, and the outer conductor is deformed over the cone shaped member. An expandable annular ring is slid over the cone shaped member and into the annular groove. Then a clamping member is secured over the cone shaped member and the annular ring, squeezing the outer conductor between the outer surface of the cone shaped member and the inner surfaces of the clamping member and annular ring.
