An outsole for a sports shoe comprises a carrier element of relatively hard material and sole portions which are relatively soft in comparison with the carrier element, secured to the underneath side thereof. The carrier element comprises a sole plate which is stiffened by stiffening wall portions disposed approximately perpendicular to the surface of the sole plate, substantially along parts of the edge of the sole plate. In the shank region the height of the stiffening wall portions is at least locally markedly lower than in the heel region of the sole plate, thereby to provide for deformability of the carrier element.
