ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An overhead cableway is disclosed of the type of a chair lift. It has a cable revolving between stations and transport devices having travelling gear and being connected with the cable by removable clamps. Travel segments at each station comprise driven friction wheels which act on the transport devices through friction surfaces provided on their travelling gear. They form at lease one deceleration and one acceleration section each. There are provided guide elements associated with the travel segments which cooperate with the travelling gear. According to the invention, the friction wheels (6,10) define travelling surfaces (20) and the transport devices (50) are supported by their downwardly oriented friction surfaces (88) directly on the friction wheels. The guide elements (48) are seated rotatably and fixed in place. The invention presents a substantial simplification of the means for the application of contact pressure force.
