ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A crusher has a crusher cone and a crushing liner de- fining a crusher nip therebetween. A substantially vertical pres- sure cylinder has an upper and a lower space, and the crusher cone has a central supporting member extending into the upper space and supported for axial movement in the upper space on pressure fluid contained therein. Pressure fluid is controllably supplied and discharged from the lower space in dependence on the pressure exerted on the crusher cone by material to be crushed in the nip, whereby the elevation of the crusher cone and the width of the nip are adjusted. A damper includes a damping cylinder and a conduit having a constricted passage and providing a continuous communica- tion for the pressure fluid between the lower space of the pressure cylinder and the damping cylinder. The damper also includes a piston movably mounted in the damping cylinder to interact with pressure fluid in the damping cylinder and thereby, through the constricted passage, with the pressure fluid in the pressure- cylinder and thus with the central supporting member of the crusher cone. The damper further includes preloading acting with a sub- stantially constant pressure on the piston against the action of the pressure fluid both during normal operation and during over- load thereof.
