NOVEL OXACHALCOGENAZOLE DYES, PROCESSES FOR THEIR PREPARATION, AND ARTICLES CONTAINING THESE DYES Abstract of the Disclosure Methine dyes are disclosed which in alternate resonance forms can be represented by the formulae: Image wherein E represents an auxochrome; L represents a methine linkage; M represents a charge balancing counterion; m is zero or 1; X represents halogen or a pseudohalogen; and Z represents the atoms completing an aromatic nucleus. The dyes can be formed by condensing a compound satisfying the formula: Image wherein H* is an activated hydrogen and q is zero or 1, with a chromophore completing compound. The dyes are useful in optical recording elements and in photo- graphic elements.
