A catalyst for use in an oxidation reaction comprises a porous alumina support in the form of pellets or powder, preferably powder. The porous alumina support has captured thereon a complex comprising gold, a transition metal selected from cobalt or manganese, and alumina, the concentration of gold on the support being less than 2 percent by mass of the catalyst, and the atomic ratio of gold to transition metal being in the range 1:10 to 1:200.

Catalyseur utilisable dans une réaction d'oxydation, ce catalyseur comprenant un support poreux en oxyde d'aluminium se présentant sous forme de grosses particules ou de poudre, la forme pulvérulente étant préférée. Sur le support poreux en oxyde d'aluminium est capturé un complexe formé d'or, d'un métal de transition tel que le cobalt ou le manganèse, et d'oxyde d'aluminium; la concentration d'or sur le support étant inférieure à 2 pour cent en masse du catalyseur et le rapport atomique or/métal de transition se situant dans la fourchette comprise entre 1:10 et 1:200.
