ABSTRACT A method is provided wherein, by proper control of the oxygen partial pressure and by avoiding excessive grinding of minerals, sulfide and/or arsenide-sulfide concentrates can be oxidation pressure leached to extract or recover cobalt and other metal values such as nickel, copper, zinc, and lead while extracting only small amounts of arsenic and iron, and generating relatively little free sulfuric acid, in a reasonable length of time, at relatively low operating temperatures and pressures, without significant aggregation of the sulfide and arsenide-sulfide minerals.
