Disclosed is a scaleable process for the oxidation of carbon-boron bonds with a monopersulfate compound of the formula 2KHSO5.cndot.KHSO4.cndot.K2SO4. The process may be employed for producing a compound of the formula: (see formula I) from a compound of the formula: (see formula II) (in which R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H, alkyl, etc; and V and W are each H or OH, provided that V and W cannot be both H or both OH), by reacting (II) with a borane and then with the monopersulfate compound. This process provides higher yield and purity than known processes.
