ABSTRACT A composition of matter comprising monolith support material, SnO2, Pt and/or Pd and at least one Cr compound is prepared by a process comprising the steps of coating a monolith material with colloidal SnO2, drying, impregnation with compounds of Pt and/or Pd and Cr (and preferably Mn), drying/calcining, and heating in a reducing gas at a temperature of about 0-300°C. This composition of matter is used as a catalyst in a process for oxidizing CO with O2 to CO2, preferably in a CO2 laser.
