Abstract A composition comprises (a) at least one vanadium oxide as support material, (b) platinum metal, and (c) iron oxide and/or metal. This composition is used as catalyst in the reaction of carbon monoxide and oxygen to carbon dioxide. Preferably, the composition is made by a preparation process comprising the steps of impregnating the support material with an aqueous acid solution (preferably concentrated nitric acid) of Pt and Fe compounds.
