43-21(682)A OXIDATION OF DIALKYL POLYAROMATICS TO DICARBOXYPOLYAROMATICS ABSTRACT A process for the production of poly- aromatic acids is disclosed in which the alkyl substituents of an alkyl substituted poly-aromatic compound are oxidized with an oxygen containing gas in the presence of a catalytic amount of a halogen-free metal catalyst composition, the oxidation being carried out in an organic aliphatic carboxylic acid solvent having from 2 to about 7 carbon atoms.
