ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention concerns a process for the bacterial oxidation of ferrous salt solutions in the presence of oxygen and at an acid pH, She oxidation is carried out with the bacterial oxidising agent coated on the passage surfaces of a structure which is honeycombed with passages. The process conveni- ently is carried out continuously. The ferric salt obtained may be used for leaching a mineral, eg an ore or coal.
