ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process which comprises the oxidation of sul- phur-containing compounds by treating said sulphur-contain- ing compounds with an oxygen-containing gas in a medium possessing a pH of from about 8 to 14 in the presence of a catalyst system comprising a Group VIIB metal phthalocyanine and a Group VIII metal phthalocyanine.
