ABSTRACT The novel compounds of Formula 1 Image ( I ) wherein Hal is chlorine or bromine and R is an ethoxy, methoxymethyl, ethoxy- methyl, methoxyethoxy, cyano or cyanomethyl group when Hal is chlorine and R is a cyano, methoxy or methoxyethoxy group when Hal is bromine, and their salts prove to have a strong anti-depressive activity, This is expressed in a powerful potentiation of noradrenalin and in a strong serotonin potentiation. Monoamine oxidane inhibition does not provide a contribution to the anti- depressive activity. The compounds are free from noxion side effects to a considerable extent, for example, bronchoconstriction and stomach ulceration. The novel compounds can be prepared and formulated to compositions by means of methods which are known per se.
