ABSTRACT Oxothiazolidine compounds of the formula: Image wherein R1 is benzoyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by one or two substituent(s) selected from lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, halogen and trihalo- methyl; benzenesulfonyl; lower alkoxy benzene- sulfonyl; pyridylcarbonyl, furoyl, thenoyl; di- (lower)alkylamino(lower)alkylcarbamoyl(lower)alkyl; phenylcarbamoyl(lower)alkyl; xylylcarbamoyl(lower)- alkyl; phenyl(lower)alkylcarbamoyl(lower)alkyl; pyridylcarbamoyl(lower)alkyl; furyl(lower)alkylcar- bamoyl(lower)alkyl: thiazolidinylcarbonyl(lower)- alkyl; morpholinylcarbonyl(lower)alkyl; or a group of the formula: Image in which a is lower alkylene; n is an integer of 0 or 1; m is an integer of 2 or 3; X is -N-, Image or -CH- and R2 is hydroxy; lower alkyl, hydroxyloweralkyl, mono(or di)phenyl(lower)alkyl unsubstituted or substituted by halogen; phenylthio; halophenylthio; benzoyl; benzenesulfonyl; halobenzenesulfonyl; or indolyl; and Y is -S-, Image or Image and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are useful as cognition activators, processes for the preparation of the compounds and pharmaceutical compositions comprising the compounds are provided.
