Oxychlorination catalyst containing at least copper as an active element deposited on a support characterized in that the support consists essentially of an alumina obtained by calcination of an alumina hydrate obtained as by- product of the ALFOL~ linear primary alcohol process and use of such catalyst in an oxychlorination process of a hydrocarbon containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms.

L'invention concerne un catalyseur d'oxychloration qui contient au moins du cuivre comme élément actif déposé sur un support caractérisé en ce qu'il contient essentiellement de l'alumine obtenue par calcination d'hydroxyde d'alumine obtenu comme sous-produit du procédé à l'alcool primaire linéaire, ALFOL®. L'invention concerne par ailleurs l'utilisation de ce catalyseur dans le procédé d'oxychloration d'un hydrocarbure contenant entre 1 et 4 atomes de carbone.
