The present invention provides a new oxygen absorbent sealed in a pack with food to prevent the food from deteriorating. The oxygen absorbent contains ascorbic acid and/or salts thereof, an alkaline compound such as sodium carbonate, a reaction accelerator such as ferrous sulfate, and a silica gel, improving the flowability and the oxygen absorbability.
