In an oxygen concentrator which is intended for aircraft use, a booster compressor is used to increase the pressure of the product gas from the concentrator in order to increase the amount of the gas which can be stored in a plenum. The booster includes two moving pistons which are rigidly linked together and a series of check valves which control the flow of gases through the compressor. One of the pistons is driven by air from the rotary valve in the concentrator, and the other piston compresses the product gas for delivery to the plenum. A small sample of concentrator product gas is monitored by an oxygen sensor for oxygen concentration. Once the oxygen concentration has reached an acceptable level the booster compressor fills the plenum with product gas. Thereafter, if oxygen concentration of product gas delivered to the crew from the concentrator falls below the concentration which is required at a particular altitude, the product gas stored in the plenum is delivered to the crew. The oxygen sensor monitors the concentrator output product gas to the breathing regulator when the stored plenum gas is not being used.
Cette invention concerne un concentrateur d'oxygène pour aéronefs qui comprend un surpresseur destiné à augmenter la pression du gaz concentré pour pouvoir en stocker davantage dans un réservoir. Le surpresseur comprend deux pistons mobiles solidaires l'un de l'autre et une série de clapets de retenue ayant pour rôle de régler l'écoulement du gaz à l'intérieur de celui-ci. Un des pistons est entraîné par l'air sortant par la valve rotative de concentrateur tandis que l'autre piston comprime le gaz concentré en vue de son transfert dans le réservoir. Un petit échantillon du gaz concentré est acheminé vers un détecteur d'oxygène servant à en déterminer la teneur en oxygène. Lorsque la teneur en oxygène a atteint un niveau approprié, le surpresseur assure le remplissage du réservoir. Par la suite, lorsque la teneur en oxygène de l'air distribué à l'équipage par le concentrateur retombe en deçà de la valeur requise à une altitude donnée, le gaz concentré stocké dans le réservoir est libéré pour distribution à l'équipage. Lorsque l'alimentation en air de l'équipage est assurée sans prélèvement dans le réservoir de stockage, le détecteur d'oxygène susmentionné contrôle la teneur en oxygène de l'air au niveau du régulateur des appareils respiratoires.
