An oxygen generating device (11, 211) to which a gas mixture containing oxygen is fed, and which is operable to separate the gas mixture into oxygen rich and oxygen depleted gas components, the device (11, 211) comprising a negative temperature coefficient material (36<u>a</u>, 36<u>b</u>, 36<u>c</u>; 236) which is active at an elevated temperature above a minimum operating temperature, to separate the gas mixture into oxygen rich and oxygen depleted gas components, there being means (15, 28) to pass an electrical current through the device (11, 211) to produce a heating effect within the device to heat the gas mixture at least towards the minimum operating temperature wherein the device comprises a plurality of active sections (A, B, C) through each of which the gas mixture passes in turn, and the electrical current supply is connected to each of the sections (A, B, C) so that the sections electrically are connected in series.
Dispositif de production d'oxygène (11, 211) alimenté par un mélange de gaz contenant de l'oxygène, permettant de séparer le mélange de gaz en éléments riches en oxygène et en éléments pauvres en oxygène. Le dispositif (11, 211) comporte un matériau à coefficient de température négatif (36<u>a</u>, 36<u>b</u>, 36<u>c</u>; 236) actif à une température élevée au-dessus d'une température de fonctionnement minimum, ce qui permet de séparer le mélange de gaz en éléments riches en oxygène et éléments pauvres en oxygène. Une unité (15, 28) fait passer un courant électrique dans le dispositif (11, 211), ce qui produit un effet de chauffage à l'intérieur du dispositif et permet de porter le mélange de gaz à une température au moins proche de la température minimum de fonctionnement. Le dispositif est constitué d'une pluralité de sections actives (A, B, C) par chacune desquelles le mélange de gaz passe tour à tour; l'alimentation électrique est reliée à chacune des sections (A, B, C) de sorte que les sections sont reliées électriquement en série.
