ABSTRACT FOR THE DISCLOSURE OXYGEN PULPING A method of cooking cellulosic material in one or more stages in an alkaline medium under high oxygen pressure by, at least every 30 minutes during the cook, reducing the pressure in the vessel substantially by venting gas there- from, followed by returning the vessel to operating pressure by injection of oxygen containing gas. The pressure is re- duced by at least 50 p.s.i.
