ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is provided herein for the catalytic decomposition of ozone. In particular, this invention describes a process for the removal of ozone from a mixture of gases containing ozone by catalytic decomposi- tion of the ozone in which process the mixture is passed over a catalyst comprising one or more members selected from the group consisting of Pt, Ru, Rh, Pd, Ir, Os, Fe, Co, Ni, Ag, Mn, and Sn each in the form of a metal, alloy or compound. In the improved process, the catalyst is deposited on a support having channels ext ending between a pair of opposed faces of the support such that the number of channels across an opposed face of the support is at least 200 per square inch of the face; and (b) the support has a layer of intermediate refractory metal oxide having a loading which falls within the range 0.2 g/cu inch and 2 g/cu inch of the support. In the preferred process when using metal supports for the catalysts, a low back pressure combined with improved ozone decomposition efficiency is achieved.
