Abstract Processes for preparing compounds of the formula Image (I) and the pharmaceutically acceptable esters thereof wherein R is alkyl (1-6C) or cycloalkyl (1-6C) optionally fused to the benzene of the compound of formula I at positions 3 and 4; Z is a straight chain alkylene (1-15C) optionally substituted by one or two lower alkyl (1-3C), with the proviso that if the compound of formula I is unesterified, Z cannot be unsubstituted propylene, and to the compounds prepared thereby are disclosed. These compounds as well as those which are unesterified and wherein Z is unsubstituted propylene are useful for preparing pharmaceutical compositions effective to inhibit allergic tissue reactions which are due to specific allergic hypersensitivity or to specific irritants by inhibiting the release of mediators of such reactions.
