6742-249 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A pacing system analyzer is disclosed which allows the user to measure pacing thresholds in terms of output current in milliamps, in a manner that many users are accustomed to, even through the output circuitry is actually adjusted on a voltage basis. The output voltage is adjusted under the controls incre- ment and decrement keys on the keyboard of the analyzer. The same increment and decrement keys may alternately be employed to control the pulse interval or stimulation rate once for every output cycle at the rate of pacing changes rapidly if the pacing rate is fast and changes slowly if the pacing rate is low. This allows the device to arrive at an appropriate rate in a minimum rate of time and is especially useful when the user is employing rapid stimula- tion and the delivery of bursts of pulses to attempt to break up a tachycardia. The pacing system analyzer includes further pro- visions for safely charging the output capacitor to power up even through the implantable pacing generator is connected to the anal- yzer. In this event the voltage is ramped towards the voltage the capacitor will eventually charge to in a manner which limits the maximum current that is going through each chamber of the heart to a safe amount. In addition, the pacing system analyzer has the capability of determining the pacing mode that an implantable pacing generator is operated in when it is connected to the anal- yzer and then of measuring and power and printing all of the appro- priate parameters associated with that particular mode.
