A packaging assembly for a liquid to pasty product, particularly mascara, comprises an applicator (3) and a container (5) with at least one bristle cleaning device (19). The applicator (3) includes a handle (7) and at least one cluster of bristles (11) implanted in parallel with the mid-plane of the handle, wherein the bristle cleaning device is adapted to scrape the bristle portion in the direction of the bristle axis.
