Abstract In a reel-change device provided for feeding high- performance packaging machines with web-like packaging material wound to form reels, two working journals are fed alternatively with ("full") reels, whilst the other working journal carries the working reel running off in the meantime. The new reels are extracted from a reel stock by means of a transport arm with a transport journal and, as a result of pivoting to one side or the other, are brought into a position equiaxial with one or other of the working journals. When there is correct alignment, the reel is pushed onto the empty working journal. For this purpose, the transport arm is pivotable and can be shifted axis-parallel relative to the working journals.
