An automatic selector wedge changing assembly (5) for a continuous motion packaging machine (7) includes a carriage assembly (51) which reciprocates along a horizontal guide rail (52) in substantial alignment with a selector belt (13) on the packaging machine (7). The carriage assembly (51) includes a vertical guide rail (56) for moving a wedge changing head (57) vertically relative to the selector belt (13) and storage pallets (71, 72, 73) which hold series of selector wedges. The assembly (5) removes a first series of selector wedges from the selector belt (13), places them of a first storage pallet (71), removes a second series of selector wedges from a second storage pallet (72), and attaches them to the selector belt (13).
