A packaging material (21) has at least one line of weakness (23) consisting of weak points (25, 27) arranged at a distance in succession. For an essentially silent destruction of the line of weakness (23), there are zones of of reduced strength being preferably designed to merge continuously into one another as weak points (25, 27). The packaging material preferably consists of cellophane or of biologically degradable plastic foil. The zones of reduced strength can also consist of webs of varying size between perforations of a line of weakness. The invention thereby achieves the destruction of a line of weakness which is staggered in time and which allows an essentially silent opening of packs produced from the packaging material, especially those for articles of hygiene, such as tampons for feminine hygiene.
