A pre-straightened metal wire consisting of a copper alloy and having a diameter of less than 6 mm and a mechanical strength of 400-750 MPa is packaged in a cylindrical drum in such a way that, when it is unwound, the wire is straight, with a sag of less than 5 mm per metre, and can be fed directly to a bar turning machine.
