Apparatus and process in which one plate, or several ac- curately superimposed plates (10, 16) carry items (12, 18) to be packaged. On inversion of the plates, items either fall directly in- to the voids of a partitioned box (26) or fall into individual pack- ages held by a plate, which packaged items are then ejected by pushrods, etc. into a single box. A plate may have cut-away por- tions (e.g. V-shaped grooves) which receive upstanding edges or partition walls of a box to accurately register box with plate (and contents) and nest the box into the plate to achieve configura- tion-accurate inversion of the items to be packaged.
