A packer retriever (100) having a grapple body (127) rotatably and slideably coupled to a mandrel (102) directly attached to a milling tool (140) can engage a packer (or extension thereof) (142) having a substantially smooth I.D. in a wellbore while the packer is milled. The mandrel rotates in a central opening through the grapple body (127). The grapple body does not rotate when released from teeth(134) of a nut(112) on the mandrel and can remain engaged to the packer ( or the extension) as milling proceeds. The mandrel includes a specially designed shoulder(116) and the grapple body includes a specially designed bearing (108), both casehardened, which allow the mandrel to rotate constantly while reducing die effects of wear. The packer retriever remains in the engaged position to prevent the packer from falling if it breaks loose while milling. The packer retriever can transfer torque to the packer and can be engaged and released multiple times.
L'invention concerne un récupérateur de garniture d'étanchéité comprenant un corps de préhension couplé rotatif et coulissant à un mandrin fixé directement sur une fraise. Ce récupérateur peut venir en contact avec une garniture d'étanchéité (ou une extension de celle-ci) présentant un diamètre intérieur sensiblement lisse, dans un puits de forage, pendant le fraisage de la garniture d'étanchéité. Le mandrin pivote dans une ouverture centrale formée à travers le corps de préhension. Ledit corps de préhension ne pivote pas lorsqu'il est relâché des dents d'un écrou disposé sur le mandrin, et il peut rester en contact avec la garniture d'étanchéité (ou son extension) à mesure que se déroule le fraisage. Le mandrin comporte un épaulement de conception spéciale et le corps de préhension comporte un palier de conception spéciale, lesdits épaulement et palier étant durcis superficiellement, ce qui permet au mandrin de pivoter de manière constante, les effets de l'usure étant parallèlement réduits. Le récupérateur de garniture d'étanchéité selon l'invention demeure en position de contact pour empêcher la garniture d'étanchéité de tomber si elle se détache pendant le fraisage. Le récupérateur peut transférer un couple à la garniture d'étanchéité, et il peut être mis en contact et relâché à de multiples reprises.
