A method of managing a Denial of Service attack received at a network node from a packet data communications network, by tracing the path of predominantly malicious data packets arriving at the network node. The attack may be mitigated by selecting a router along the detected path and requesting the router to alter its handling of the data traffic. In one embodiment, the selected router installs a filter for data directed at the network node. In a different embodiment, the router alters a Quality of Service setting for the data directed at the network node. The network node also request the router to mark all data being forwarded to it, to allow the network to characterise the data and determine to what extent it consists of malicious data.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de gérer une attaque par refus de service subie à un noeud de réseau à partir d'un réseau de communication de données paquets, par traçage du chemin des paquets de données à prédominance illicite arrivant au noeud de réseau. L'attaque peut être atténuée au moyen de la sélection d'un routeur le long du chemin détectecté, et de la demande à ce routeur de modifier sa prise en charge du trafic de données. Dans un mode de réalisation, le routeur choisi installe un filtre pour les données dirigées vers le noeud de réseau. Dans un mode de réalisation différent, le routeur modifie le réglage de la qualité de service pour les données dirigées vers le noeud de réseau. Ce noeud de réseau peut également demander au routeur de marquer toutes les données qui lui sont transmises, afin de permettre que le réseau caractérise les données et détermine dans quelle mesure ces dernières sont constituées de données illicites.
