-14- ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE PACKING AUTOMOBILE EXHAUST SILENCER CASING An automobile silencer comprising a casing 1, a perforated tube 6 and an end piece 5 is packed with glass fibres by chopping a strand consisting of a plurality of continuous glass fibres into discrete lengths between two rollers and allowing the discrete lengths to be carried into the casing 1 in an air flow. The individual fibres of each discrete length separate from each other in the casing 1 to form the desired fluffed-up wool-like material. The air flow through the casing 1 may be established by a vacuum applied to one end of the tube 6 or by an air jet directed into the casing 1.
