ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A paging apparatus comprises a control device for controlling all other components of the apparatus. The control device can have a memory for storing the ID number of the paging apparatus. There is shown methods and devices for storing the ID number in the memory or an ID memory device. These methods can be classified into two types. One type is write, into the memory of the control device or into the ID memory device, the ID number which the apparatus detects after a specific code and which has been broadcast from a base station, along with the specific code. The other type is to write the ID number into the memory of the control device or into the ID memory device when the input terminal provided the paging apparatus is connected to an external ID number writer. In either type of method, the paging apparatus generates an alarm upon completion of writing the ID number into the memory of the control device or into the ID memory device, thereby informing the user of this fact.
