An improved paint applicator (20) has a base (21), a handle (22) mounted on the base for pivotal movement between first and second angular positions in a plane substantially parallel to the surface being painted about a first axis (y-y), an adapter (23) mounted on the handle for pivotal movement between extended and retracted positions in a plane substantially perpendicular to such surface about a second axis (z-z), and a spring (24) acting between the base and adapter for urging the handle to move toward a null position intermediate the first and second positions and for urging the adapter to move toward its retracted position.
