ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for the detackification of oversprayed paint solids which comprises contacting the oversprayed paint solids with an oil-in- water emulsion. In the case of certain paints, the emulsion will also trap or capture the volatile organic paint solvents in the oversprayed paint or lacquer solids. After separation the paint material containing solvents can be used as a fuel, the emulsion can be reused.
