ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A painting composition base is provided containing chlorinated rubber and a plasticizer. The plasticizer is at least one of the compounds represented by the formula (I): Ar1-R-AR2-R-Ar3 (I) wherein R is alkylene selected from the group consisting of Image Image , and any one of Ar1, Ar2, and Ar3 is alkyl-phenyl (Ar1 or Ar3) or alkylphenylene (Ar2), such alkyl having 1-3 carbon atoms, the number of alkyl radicals being 1-3, and the number of carbon atoms contained in all of the alkyls being 1-3, alternatively any two of Ar1, Ar2, and Ar3 are phenyl or tolyl (Ar1 and/or Ar3), or phenylene or methylphenylene (Ar2). This provides, a chlorinated rubber painting composition base which contains a harmless stabilizer having good compatibility with the painting base as well as excellent water and chemicals resistances and durability, and which has all the advantages of the previous paints obtained from chlorinated rubber or chlorine-containing synthetic resins.
