ABSTRACT This is a lighting device for a patio umbrella. In the first variation, the wiring is on the outside of the post, to allow for the retrofit of existing umbrellas. In succeeding variations, the wiring is inside the post; built in at the time of manufacture. The light ring is attached to the top of the main post, inside the umbrella. Four semi-circular neon light tubes are attached to the light ring. The light ring is attached by electric wire to an on/off switch which is positioned on the umbrella winder housing, on the opposite side to the winder. The switch, in turn, is attached to a 12 volt system (either rechargeable battery or step down transformer).
